Times 1.0.4 + Beyond

Times version 1.0.4 is now out. It is the fourth release of Times in just a little over a week. 1.0.4 contains a pretty cool new feature that's easy to miss if you don't read the release notes. When you're reading an article and see a link but don't know where it goes, keep your cursor hovered over the link for a second...

Updates will continue to be released in the following weeks to improve stability and performance, while more focus will go towards releasing 1.1 as soon as possible. That version should address a lot of concerns and thoughts about Times- that is, when it comes out! Stay tuned!

I have similar problems. Constant crashes and makes it almost unusable. As well as certain feeds not really working.

Examples are:
http://www.skysports.com/rss/0,20514,11095,00.xml
http://www.aftonbladet.se/?service=rss
http://www2.tv4.se/ekwall/rss

Poor option in terms of updating feeds. Some are not updated since this morning for some reason. Would also love to see more configuration options in terms of layout, sizes etc..

Thanks for the feedback - if you guys haven't already, can you send crash reports to bugs@acrylicapps.com?Much appreciated.

You can remove the ~/Library/Application Support/Times/ directory to reset Times if you're stuck.

does times have the feature that, if i read my feed using times on one machine, it will mark them as read, and when I come to open times on another, i wont be presented with the already read items?

As I work with different machines, this feature is the one reason why I wont switch from something like Greader.

If its not in the works, or already available, are their any plans to have such a feature in the future - e.g. with a login/user account service managing what you've read using times ?

You still haven't fixed that nasty bug that make me loose all my pages, except the first one. It's really annoying...

Some rss feeds dont show the whole story and just the first line...is it anything to do with this program or coz of the web site's policy? Im a little confused here..ive no problem with paying the full fee for the software but no point if I canoot read all my articles?

eldose - Typically this is because of a site's RSS feed limitations. Times does its best to try and go out and download the full article, but sometimes it fails (for various reasons).

If you file a bug report (Help menu > Report Bugs/Feedback...) and attach a link to the site, we'll look into trying to make it work better. :)

I do love this software - Presenting RSS feeds as a newspaper is a great idea - but I will stop using it ... I've got no problem paying for a software but when it is finished... This is a good beta version.

1. page curl is so slow -> Not usable
2. feeds are regularily broken. I have to remove them in Times and re-subscribe
3. Some articles are not at all or partially retrieved

Is there a way to navigate between articles from the same feed? Keyboard shortcuts without having to close and click on another article.

I also suffer from a loss of all feeds on all but the first page. :-(

I already contacted you via e-mail about a temporary backup strategy until this issue is resolved, as I feel no need to set up my news reader every other day. But haven't heard back from you on this - you also could have written a more open blog post for example.

So now my trial period is over and as far as the testing time goes, Times is unusable as long as this issue is unresolved. Very sad, because I really liked the concept. But paying for a product, that is not usable most of the time is a turnoff for me.

If a new version comes out, is there a way to try that again or am I locked in on buying a product that might still be flawed?

Perhaps someone could tell me if they've figured out how to change the font that articles are displayed in. I'm ok with just about any solution, so long as it works.

This product still crashes *way* too much to be considered a 1.0 release. 3 times in under 10 minutes for me. Please consider a free beta to hammer out the bugs before asking folks to shell out real money.

agree with the free beta. i want to support the growth of this project but can't justify paying money for something that doesn't yet work.

Houston, we have a problem. I am among earlier beta testers, and I have stopped using Times a while ago to allow time for bugfixing. The time has now come for me to re-review, but the license expiring ('times trial expired') blocks me from freshly evaluating 1.0.4 for stability.

This is still too rushed, in a way that cultured code, for example, is managing fantastically well to avoid (perhaps they even swing the other way a bit -- guys, I'm ready to pay now, okay? :-).

I adore the concept and I want Times to break through into greatness, but this is not the path. Having people debug your app is not a 'trial license'.

Fixing that is easy! You don't even have to call it back into beta, just say everything until 1.x is community test, have it expire after a generous amount of time, say, end of the year. Have patience! Create a following first!

...and ofcourse I only now read the tip about removing the ~/library stuff, which allows for re-trialing, thereby making my previous comment come off kind of pompous. Still, removing the 14-day license check until you haven't heard about bugs in a while still sounds like a good plan.

It worked fine when I tested it. I would buy it if it wasn't because of Google Reader. I love having my feeds on the net, because then I can read my news at school or other places.

Is it possible that Times can sync with GReader or another online reader in the future?
